NCCJSTL promotes positive intergroup relations through advocacy, conflict resolution, leadership development, and education, with the goal of transforming communities to make them more open and inclusive. NCCJSTL works with established and emerging leaders from a diversity of backgrounds and spheres of expertise. Together with NCCJSTL these influential leaders break down barriers and build more inclusive institutions that both reflect and strengthen the St. Louis community today. You can join our efforts by making a gift to NCCSTL. Your donation, campaign gift, sponsorship of an event, bequest, or membership in our Humanitarian Society will support a variety of approaches to fighting bias, bigotry, and racism. All of the funds we raise are used to strengthen our core activities: effective programming, research, and advocacy. These three approaches work together to empower youth and emerging leaders, build interfaith understanding, provide diversity/inclusiveness training for workplaces, and educate the public and influential leaders to confront pressing intergroup issues in order to make St. Louis and our nation more just and inclusive. For example, we provide: - Youth leadership training that gives young people life skills for nurturing diversity and inclusion and reducing prejudice.
- Community advocacy in the face of hate crimes.
- Forums for leaders such as clergy, teachers, and executives that train them to work within their institutions and communities across the divides of race, religion and culture.
These programs, together with other efforts, have a major impact on the communities we serve. In the last year... - Almost 1500 people participated in an NCCJSTL workshop, residential program, forum, dialogue, training, or other service or program.
- NCCJSTL programming reached a representatively diverse set of St. Louisans: half were middle or upper income and half lower or lower-middle income; 44% were white, 44% were African American, 6% were Latino, 2% were Asian-American, 4% identified as multi-racial.
- NCCJSTL youth initiatives reached fifteen school districts, four universities, and six independent schools. Of these institutions, 81% were public and 19% were private or faith-affiliated.
- NCCJSTL partnered with 23 local non-profits and government agencies.
- NCCJSTL did trainings or workshops in six companies and other workplaces.
- NCCJSTL accomplished its work with the assistance of nearly 130 specially trained volunteers, over 40% of them teenagers.
You can participate in any of the following ways: NCCJSTL conducts St. Louis' Walk As One Walk-A-Thon program, an awareness and advocacy initiative to bring together corporations, families, community and religious leaders, media representatives, and civic organizations to raise awareness of issues related to bias, bigotry, and racism. The Walk As One is a growing community program. The Walk bridges not only critical divides in communities, it also joins our largest service populations (youth and executives/managers/community leaders) in a program they can participate in as peers. The Walk As One raises funds for youth and community leadership programs that benefit the St. Louis region; since its inception, Walk As One has raised $370,000 for local programming. By raising funds for the Walk, participants help to ensure that NCCJSTL's important programmatic initiatives will be available and sustainable. Most importantly, walkers come together to celebrate our progress in fighting bias, bigotry and racism and take a stand against ongoing issues of intolerance. The Humanitarian Society recognizes individuals who make unrestricted gifts of $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 and above as members of this special donor circle. Humanitarian Society membership demonstrates your personal dedication to our work to fight bias and build inclusion for all. Young Humanitarians are 35 years of age or under and give one dollar a day to support the work of NCCJSTL ($365/year). Bequests and other planned gifts for general support or a specific purpose ensure the future work of NCCJSTL. Charitable trusts and gift annuities can also provide benefits for you during your lifetime and create a legacy for your family. If you are considering a planned commitment, NCCJSTL will work with you and your financial advisor to determine the best way to make your gift.
