Leadership As A Way of Being

Leadership pic:

Leadership As A Way of Being is a new monograph written by Ambassador James A Joseph. Ambassador Joseph served in South Africa from 1996 to 2000. He is at present Professor of the Practice of Public Policy Studies and Executive Director of the Unites States-Southern Africa Center for Leadership and Public Values at Duke University.

This monograph is available from the NCCJSTL office by calling 314-865-3042 and leaving a message in extension 111.

Foreword to the Monograph:

This publication is the fourth in a series of monographs by The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) designed to broaden our knowledge and overall understanding of intergroup relations in the United States. This series furthers our work in building communities of justice by deepening our understanding of a range of issues related to the ways in which we interact.

Ambassador Joseph focuses on five important elements of leaders, saying that they should be (1) custodians of values as well as resources; (2) advocates for public action as well as private compassion; (3) agents of reconciliation in a world that is integrating and fragmenting at the same time; (4) representatives of soft power in a world dominated by hard power; and (5) individuals constantly in need of spiritual and intellectual renewal.
