BUILDING INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES

BIC LOGO:

Our Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) Workshop is new in 2008!

NCCJSTL's new BIC format is open to all members of the St. Louis community. It is an opportunity for a diverse group of community members to come together and participate in a dialogue about our multiple identities. The workshop provides awareness-building through individual exercises, group exercises, and short lectures.

The focus of this training process is to build awareness of individual identities and prejudices; to expose the complexities of systemic and institutional oppression, power, and privilege in our society; and to create a unified vision for change in a community that works toward social justice.

What will I learn at the BIC workshop?

You will develop an awareness of yourself in the process of socialization and your role in breaking down oppressive systems. You will walk away from the day with a greater understanding about how to make a real difference in your family, your school, your job, your community, and your own life. We will practice effective communication skills and build knowledge and awareness around issues of age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, class, ability, race, religion, and appearance.
